Quicken For Mac 2015 Deals

When I opened the program today, I was prompted to install an update. It installed and it screwed up ALL of my accounts. Missing transactions, etc. so now all my account balances are wrong. ok. so I decided to restore from backup and this is the moment I find out that the automated backups that Quickens SAYS it is performing when closing the program are not actually being done. I have a backup that I did manually at the end of December so now that is my only choice to get my Quicken data some what close to where it belongs. I am really upset about this.

Are you sure they are not actually in ~:Library:Application Support:Quicken:Backups? That's the default location.

I have the exact same issue. After update of my Quicken 2015, there was no active file. If I restore from backup (in Library>Application Support>Quicken 2015>Backups) my check register ends in Oct, 2017 even though I write checks every month, the last 2 weeks ago. Chatting with Quicken support got the information that the 2015 version stopped being supported a few months ago so it's not their problem. Can anyone think of a way to recover the data?

I tried that but it doesn't help. I have 2 questions. (1) Are backups no longer saved automatically? A backup used to be saved upon quitting but, in looking in Library>Application Support>Quicken 2015>Backups, the most recent is from Jan 3, 2018 even though I use Quicken >1 time each month. So do you now have to backup manually? (2) Before this update (I should say 'update'), whenever I opened Quicken it would have the records right up to the previous check I wrote. So where was this information stored if not in Backups?
    Thank you, RickO

Quicken now has automatic backup, but QM2015 doesn't. (You can adjust the settings for automatic backup in QM2018 in Preferences > General.)
Larry, are you still using QM2015? If so, look in Library > Application Support > Quicken 2015 > Documents for the most recent version of your file and open that.
If that doesn't work, do you have Time Machine or other external backups? You might need to pull the file from the above location in one of those backups.

Correct.. Auto-back-ups on quit was not added until QM2017 v4.4, released Dec 2016. Before that, it was always manual, unless you were using QM2007 which did have automatic back-ups (just remember that QM2015+ is a 'new' product being rebuilt from scratch, so lacks many of the old features).
You will have to rely on suggestions by RickO to track down your latest ones.

I am using Quicken 2015. I didn't realize until this happened that it no longer made automatic backups because prior versions did. So I made backups casually and my last one was in January. If I open that, I see checks through Jan, just nothing since then.
Before this happened, I could open Quicken and all my checks to date were visible. So where was this stored?
I tried using a copy of Quicken from a Time Machine backup but it still didn't go past Jan.
    Thanks.

All of that info was stored in your regular data file. Normally found in Library > Application Support > Quicken 2015 > Documents. Unless you originally purchased QM15 from the Mac App Store, in which case it might be in the user-level Documents folder. Or, it might be somewhere else if you moved it.
You might want to navigate to Library > Applications Support > Quicken 2015 > Documents and then go back through Time Machine from there to see if you can find a copy. Or the same for the user-level Documents folder, or wherever else you may have moved it.
And/or do a Finder search for '.quicken2015' which is the file extension, to see if you can find it.

Thanks, RickO and smayer97, for all your help. I was able to find all the data and backup files per your instructions. Oddly, and sadly, the loss of 7 months of check writing records somehow had propagated itself to all my backups (time machine and SuperDuper). I'm baffled as to what might have happened but, after I type in all the missing checks, I'll certainly do manual backups frequently now that I know they no longer happen automatically.
