macOS is the operating system that powers every Mac. It lets you do things you simply can’t with other computers. Nicecast for mac. That’s because it’s designed specifically for the hardware it runs on — and vice versa. macOS comes with an entire suite of beautifully designed apps. It works hand in hand with iCloud to keep photos, documents, and other stuff up to date on all your devices. It makes your Mac work like magic with your iPhone and other Apple devices. And it’s been built from the ground up with privacy and security in mind.
The current Mac operating system is macOS, originally named 'Mac OS X' until 2012 and then 'OS X' until 2016. Developed between 1997 and 2001 after Apple's purchase of NeXT, Mac OS X brought an entirely new architecture based on NeXTSTEP, a Unix system, that eliminated many of the technical challenges that the classic Mac OS faced. Launched in October 2019, macOS Catalina is Apple's latest operating system for the Mac lineup. Features include cross-platform app support for third-party apps, no more iTunes, iPad as a second.
These are instructions on how to update the operating system of your Mac to the latest version of OS X. If you aren't already on OS X 10.9 Mavericks you can upgrade for free by visiting this link. Oct 30, 2019 Launched in October 2019, macOS Catalina is Apple's latest operating system for the Mac lineup. Features include cross-platform app support for third-party apps, no. If your Mac is using an earlier version of any Mac operating system, you should install the latest Apple software updates, which can include important security updates and updates for the apps installed by macOS, such as Safari, Books, Messages, Mail, Music, Calendar, and Photos. Hi sir, i wonder if i update from Mac OS X Lion 10.8.2 to Mavericks, so will my worth files i placed in song, movie, document, photo is safe or gone. Something like that! I await with anxiously.
Featuring all-new, dedicated apps for music, TV, and podcasts. Smart new features in the apps you use every day. And Sidecar, which lets you use iPad as a second Mac display.
Easy to Use When it’s simple to
do
everything, you can do anything.
On a Mac, everything is designed to work just the way you expect it to — from operating it with simple, intuitive gestures to asking Siri to find a file to having your apps automatically update themselves. Whatever you set out to do on a Mac, there’s much less to learn and that much more to accomplish.
The Finder lets you easily browse and organize the files on your Mac — and those stored in iCloud Drive. View files by icons, in a list, or with Gallery View, which helps you quickly locate a file by how it looks. Drag and drop files into folders in the sidebar. And use the Preview pane to see all of your files’ metadata, quickly create .zip files, and share using the handy Share menu.
Dark Mode adds a dramatic look to your desktop and apps that puts the focus on your content. Dynamic Desktop makes your Mac even more beautiful with time-shifting desktop pictures that match the time of day wherever you are. And Stacks keeps your desktop free of clutter by automatically organizing your files, images, documents, PDFs, and more into tidy groups.
Spotlight helps you quickly and effortlessly find what you want, like documents on your Mac, movie showtimes, and flight departure and arrival times. Just type a few keystrokes in the Spotlight search field and autocomplete immediately shows you relevant results.1
A simple two-finger swipe from the right edge of your trackpad brings up Notification Center — the same one you use on iPhone — where you can see all the alerts that have come in recently. It’s also where you’ll find your Today view, which you can customize with helpful widgets or handy information pinned from Siri searches.
Siri helps you get things done just by using your voice. It also helps you get more things done at the same time. So you can finish your document while asking Siri to tell your coworker that it’s on the way. Looking for the presentation you worked on last week? Just ask Siri.2 And with Apple Music, Siri can be your personal DJ and recommend music based on your tastes, and tell you more about songs, albums, and artists.3
Continuity All your devices.
One seamless experience.
Your Mac works with your other Apple devices in ways no other computer can. If you get a call on your iPhone, you can take it on your Mac. And when friends text you — regardless of the phone they have — you can respond from your Mac, iPad, or iPhone, whichever is closest. When you copy text or an image from one device, you can paste it into another with standard copy and paste commands. And with Sidecar, you can extend your workspace by using your iPad as a second Mac display. You can even unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch. No password typing required.
Privacy and Security We believe your data belongs to you. Period.
Everything you do with your Mac is protected by strong privacy and security features. That’s because we build data security into everything we make, right from the start.
Privacy. You trust our products with your most personal information, and we believe that you should be in complete control of it. We respect your privacy by enacting strict policies that govern how all data is handled. And when you browse the web, Safari helps prevent data companies from tracking the sites you visit.
Security. We design Mac hardware and software with advanced technologies that work together to help you run apps safely, protect your data, and keep you safe on the web. The new Find My app helps you locate a missing Mac that’s lost or stolen — even if it’s offline or sleeping. And Gatekeeper makes it safer to download and install apps from the Mac App Store and the internet.
Built in Apps Apps as powerful and elegant as your Mac. Because they’re designed for it.
With every Mac, you get a collection of powerful apps. They’re the same apps you use on your iPhone or iPad, so they’ll feel instantly familiar. They all work with iCloud, so your schedule, contacts, and notes are always up to date everywhere. And because they’re native apps — not web apps in a browser — they take full advantage of the power of your Mac to deliver the fastest possible performance and more robust features.
Media. Experience music, TV, and podcasts in three all-new Mac apps. Get all the news that matters from sources you trust, all in one place.4 Track the market and customize your watchlist. Peruse the best book titles from your desktop. And find the latest apps and extensions for your Mac, right on your Mac.

macOS Catalina: is it worth your purchase?
MacOs Catalina introduces many elements we love, such as being able to use our iPad as a second screen (especially if you have Macs and iPads that are compatible), the advent of the TV app, or music from iTunes Changes in (something that should be done for a long time).
However, if you continue to use older applications, it is very likely that they are not compatible with Catalina, so in this case we recommend that you update your Mac’s operating system to Mac Mac Catalina First think about it very well.

Excellent Review: MacOS Catalina operating system
During the past six years, Apple has updated its Mac operating system in the fall, meaning that MacOS Catalina is now available for Mac and MacBook.
This happens in conjunction with the September update of iOS for iPads and iPhones, though it has been several years in which the Mac update arrives a month later, in October.
The regularity of this update means that Apple has set an annual deadline to add a collection of new features to the Mac and this year is no different.
However, this has not always been the case. For example, there was no Mac OS X update in 2004, nor in 2008 or 2010.
The change to an annual, autumn update began in October 2013 with the launch of the Mavericks, then it was in October of the following year, before entering the 2015 to September cycle.
We mention this only to underline that the annual cycle is relatively recent. Apple does not have to update the operating system every year and yet it does. And each time it happens, the operating system of the Mac improves even more, and more importantly it doesn’t cost us a penny.
In fact, it is not entirely true to say that it costs nothing to update. When Catalina arrives this fall (we believe that in September) macOS will be a free update as usual, but there may be a hidden cost.
You can decide to buy a new Mac because you don’t have one that works with Catalina, or you can run software that is no longer compatible is.
For example, this year Apple says goodbye to 32-bit applications, so if you’re still running an older version of Adobe Creative Suite or older Microsoft Office, for example, time to think about updating these applications is. MacOS Catalina operating system
iPad as a second screen
We will say that Catalina’s main feature is Cidcar, the ability to use the iPad as a second screen and as a graphic tablet connected to the Mac. Whether or not this suits you will depend on whether you have an iPad that can support the function. The following iPads are compatible with this device:
- iPad Pro (12.9 inches, 11 inches, 10.5 inches iPad Pro, 9.7 inches 2016-2018)
- iPad (6th and 5th generation, 2017-2018)
- iPad mini (5th generation and iPad mini 4, 2015-2019)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and iPad Air 2, 2014-2019)
We suspect that many of our readers still use old iPads. The iPad does not perform a priority update in the same way as an iPhone, but the Sidecar appears to be ready as a function that can encourage Mac users to update their iPad.
Therefore, there is another reason why Catalina may not be “free” updated. To find the best iPad for you, check out our article with the best iPads.
We believe that if your iPad is not compatible with new and interesting features, then Cedar will be a good reason to update your iPad. With a compatible iPad you will benefit from a second screen that you can take with you and that has touch screen capability – finally MacOS will have screen support! – And you can use an iPad and an Apple Pencil as a graphics tablet.
Although there are many more, here are our next favorite features:
- You can connect your iPad wirelessly via Bluetooth (the range is 10 meters).
- You can (more or less) run macOS and use your Mac applications on your iPad, which could be very useful in meetings and presentations, for example. (Actually, you’ll only be reflecting it on the iPad, but it’s still great).
- You will get a kind of touch bar (as seen on the MacBook Pro) at the bottom of the iPad screen.
But is this enough reason to upgrade Cidcar Catalina? If you already use a second screen and you have a graphics tablet, or you use a third party application to use your iPad as a second screen, or you don’t have an iPad and you Don’t really want to buy one, so what other reasons are there for updating? TV and music
You may have heard that Apple is venturing into the television business and making its own programs. This fall, the company will make these programs available to users on the iPad, iPhone, Apple TV and various TVs (read more about what you’ll need to get Apple TV +). Other devices where you can watch these programs: Mac, thanks to the new TV application.
We believe that the Mac, with its large retina screen, will be the perfect platform for viewing the content Apple has to offer.
It’s not that you can’t watch TV shows and movies rented or purchased from the iTunes store on the Mac, you can do it, but the arrival of the TV application on the Mac brings context to reclaiming the benefits of the TV application You did not leave Apple alone to incorporate content from your various devices, and other platforms.
When the TV application arrives on the Mac, you will be able to search for a program and see what services they offer and more importantly, instead of paying to do so, it is free. MacOS Catalina operating system
Apple does not cease to separate the content of television and iTunes applications. Catalina, after installing iTunes, as we know it, will no longer exist. Instead you will find: TV applications, music and podcasts.
There are some concerns about what this would mean for Mac users’ music collections. Many of us have been using iTunes for years and accumulating huge libraries, we have spent time creating playlists and tunes.
ITunes is not a bad application from that point of view, but its problem is that it is more than managing your music.
When iTunes arrived on Mac in 2001, it was essentially a jukebox application, a place to copy your CDs. Then it became a way to add music to your iPod, when this device was released later that year. Then, in 2003, Apple changed the music industry when Apple launched the iTunes Music Store.
Over time, iTunes became the software used to activate native iPhones and, for a few years, to install software updates on Apple’s smartphones.
Over the years, more and more functionality was added to iTunes, so that over time, it went from buying music and video in the iTunes store to going to your Mac, to syncing and holding your iPhone and all of its applications. Was something. Sync your photo library with your podcasts, with e-books and even your iOS devices.
Then, in 2013, iOS 7 Apple switched from the Music app on iOS to iOS, while maintaining a separate iTunes Store application on iOS devices.
It has taken Apple six years to do this on a Mac. The music application will not be much different from iTunes. You’ll continue to find the music you’ve imported over the years and your playlist, although it seems like Apple is improving the interface slightly.
If you subscribe to that service then you can continue buying music in the iTunes Store and listen to music on Apple Music. But what is changing is that iTunes will no longer handle non-music related tasks, such as synchronization (which will be done via the finder). MacOS Catalina operating system
Is there a good reason to upgrade to the new music application Catalina? We believe that the simplified user interface will improve your experience and facilitate the search for the music you want to listen to.
Because this is a new application for Mac, Apple will be able to start from scratch which was good from iTunes and can eliminate the bad. And this has to be good.
Other apps
Television and music are attracting everyone’s attention, but they are not the only applications that have been updated in Catalina. There is also a new application of podcasts, but we will not go into many details as we have not leaned specifically on any podcast, although we know people who are.
There will be some changes in the way snapshots are shown in photos. You probably like it or hate it. Apple will use AI (artificial intelligence) to analyze your photos and show the best ones (to take perfect photos when you’re trying to take 20 photos), so it will automatically play live video and photos When you preview them, and show you those photos are relevant MacOS Catalina operating system
For example, if it is your daughter’s birthday, you will see pictures of birthdays taken in different years. All of these features are coming to iOS as well, so if you’re upgrading to iOS 13, you’ll probably want to upgrade to Catalina as well, just for the sake of continuity.
However, Macs do not always perform the same functions as photos in iOS. For example, before Catalina Photos on a Mac I had very limited tools for creating memory videos, photo montages, and videos that you could create. The big news is that Catalina will have more tools available to edit these movies on your Mac.
Mail is also getting some new features on iOS and macOS – which will make it easier to keep track of your inbox. You can block a particular sender’s email and move all your email to the trash.
And Apple is making it really easy to unsubscribe from mailing lists. You can also mute an email thread that is very active so that you are not notified every time someone responds.
In addition, there will be new Notes functions on Mac and iOS, however, in the case of photos, you may or may not like the changes. Basically, everything in the Notes library will be displayed as a thumbnail.
Whether or not this works for you depends on whether you prefer to see the ‘list’ view, ‘icon’ or ‘gallery’ in the Finder. In our experience, text document thumbnails are not as useful, but it can be more useful if you use Notes to store web links or to scan documents with your iPhone.
Speaking of which, you should be able to search through scanned documents in notes. Apple says that notes can recognize words and objects, so when you search, the corresponding scans will appear.
These applications, mail, notes and photos, and some other applications, including reminders and home, will see similar changes in their iPhone or iPad variants. If you use your iPhone as your main tool for applications that rarely use them on a Mac, then these improvements won’t be a big reason to upgrade to Catalina.
There is an application that is getting some significant changes on Macs that are not coming to iOS. The Find My iPhone application is focusing on the iPhone under its name and acquiring a new technology that makes it possible to track the loss of a stolen laptop, even if it is shut down and asleep. Have gone
You can locate a lost Mac because other Macs nearby can broadcast your location based on Bluetooth signals. If you have a desktop Mac instead of a laptop, this may be less relevant to you, but it can actually help you locate a lost MacBook.
That said, we do not recommend that you get in a taxi and follow a criminal to recover your Mac.
Once you have installed it, it would be better to shut down your Mac and clean it. You can already do this using Find My Software, but a new feature coming to some of Catalina’s Macs will take that one step further.
The activation lock is compatible with any Mac with the T2 security chip (some MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac Pro models). This means that if your Mac is stolen, the only person who can erase it will activate it again. Therefore, criminal types will find it difficult to resell and we hope this means that Macs are no less attractive to thieves and thieves in general.MacOS Catalina operating system
Compatibility of other apps
Not only will you have problems with non-Apple apps, as Catalina is not compatible with 32-bit applications, something that isn’t really surprising since Apple has been announcing it for quite some time.
Currently, compatibility with 32-bit apps is somewhat unnecessary, and is unlikely to be a problem for the vast majority of Mac users. However, there will be those who continue to use 32-bit apps, such as Photoshop CS5 (which was available in either 32-bit or 64-bit versions).
On the other hand, Apple has tightened its security compared to third-party apps. This means that all applications must have been “signed” by Apple before installing.
Verdict
There are several new features that will be coming to the Mac on MacOS Catalina this fall, including some accessibility features that look great.
What Is The Latest Operating System For Mac Air
We will wait to test the final version before giving our final verdict on the 2019 update on Mac. So Apple has already told about the new operating system, there are some good things to come. We like the idea of being able to use our iPad as a second screen and the advent of the TV application has been well programmed as Apple is going to offer all that new programming.
Download Latest Mac Operating System
However, many changes to the application will appear in iOS as well, and as we use those applications not on our Mac but on our iPhone, we are not sure that those applications are really a good reason to update. You can get those functions anyway, but not on your Mac.
What Is The Latest Operating Software For Mac
The other problem is that if you are running older applications that will not be supported in Catalina. It is entirely possible that you have never switched to preferred subscription plans such as Microsoft and Adobe, and you continue to use older versions of their applications. In that case, if you want to install Catalina, maybe it’s time to cut the hook and update everything.
